22 May Domestic Electricity at Below Gas Price…3.6p Per kWh…Achieved!
Has any house builder or retrofit organisation managed to buy electricity cheaper than gas and have they completely removed gas from the house’s energy supply? Solar PV House has.
I submitted a document with headline info about the house to this call for evidence (and an idea I had about the multiple benefits of an extra eco-bedroom way back at the start of all this) from the UK government.

The biggest news (I think) is that my concerted efforts with the Tesla app, Octopus Agile and some smart enabled immersion heaters managed to get our average electricity price per kWh down to just 3.6p last April. It took considerable vigilance…intrusively so…but the Holy Grail for housing is to get the millions of gas boilers removed without increasing fuel poverty. Maybe we can work on that and add a little automation.
To that end Adrian our friendly techno-architect at Gebler Tooth thought it was interesting and he and I are working together with the house data to see if we can create an algorithm that will make it more straightforward to turn Victorian terraced houses (and any old house really I guess) into a much more energy efficient machine. Govt aims to have everyone up the EPC ‘C’ by…. can’t remember… think 2035.
Update – 22 Feb 2022: Work with Adrian has unfortunately ceased as we couldn’t agree on a business model. We have now made our house information available for others to learn from on this website.
